How to care for your handmade candles for optimal longevity

The art of caring for your Brume & Cire candles

Your handcrafted candles deserve careful attention to reveal their full beauty and prolong their lifespan. Here are our expert tips to help you fully enjoy your vegetable wax creations.

1. The first combustion: the crucial step

The first time you light your candle is crucial. Let it burn until the entire surface is liquid (approximately 2-3 hours). This prevents tunneling and ensures even burning for all subsequent uses.

2. Trim the lock regularly

Before each use, trim the wick to approximately 5mm. A wick that is too long produces a flame that is too high, soot, and can blacken the container. Use a wick trimmer or clean scissors.

3. Ideal combustion time

Never let your candle burn for more than 4 hours at a time. For our sculptural candles, 2-3 hours is sufficient. Then allow the wax to cool completely before relighting.

4. Protect your candles from dust

Between uses, cover your candles or store them in a clean place. Vegetable wax can absorb dust, which affects its appearance and burning.

5. Avoid drafts

Place your candles away from windows, fans, or air conditioners. Drafts create an uneven flame and can cause soot.

6. Clean the container

If soot appears on the glass, extinguish the candle, let it cool and gently clean with a damp cloth.

7. Optimal storage

Store your candles at room temperature (15-25°C), away from direct sunlight which can discolor the natural wax.

Our sculptural candles: a special case

For our creations like Halo, Muse, or La Torsadée, you can choose never to light them and keep them as decorative objects. Their sculptural beauty makes them true works of art that enhance your interior, whether lit or not.

Safety first

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended
  • Keep out of reach of children and animals
  • Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface
  • Always extinguish the candle before leaving a room

At Brume & Cire, each candle is handmade with love and care. By following these tips, you'll prolong the magic of our handcrafted creations.
